Fire destroys six bedroom house in Laqere

Nineteen people in Laqere, Nasinu are now homeless after their six bedroom house was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon.

The fire is believed to have started from the store room and two people were inside the house at the time of the incident.

Owner of the house 38-year-old Meredani Lesu says she could smell smokes at around 2.30pm.

Taxi driver, Salamat Dean who was passing by the house says he rushed in to help the families save some of their items.

“I parked my car and tried to help the lady that was in the house with the small kids. I take the lady outside, the kids and all the stuff. Not even 10 minutes the house got burnt.”

The fire fighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to a nearby house.

Investigation to determine the cause of fire will begin soon.
