The final preparations are underway in Nadi on the eve of the 52nd Asian Development Bank’s Annual Board of Governors meeting.
The final touches have been put through the program with rehearsals also held this morning.
Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Bernadette Walsh says everything is in place for the meeting to begin proper tomorrow.
“The day before a major event, it’s always a last minute rush, you’re just trying to make sure that you’ve got all the details down pat but I am very confident that we’re ready and this place is looking absolutely stunning.”
Police checkpoints have been set up to ensure the safety of all the delegates with more than 400 officers deployed for the ADB operation.
The focus of deliberations at the meeting will be on a number of key themes such as climate change, ocean health, gender equality and renewable energy.
Close to 3000 delegates are expected to attend the meeting which will be one of the biggest high level events for Fiji to host.
Government has invested $10 million into hosting the ADB meeting with donor funding and some businesses putting in another $11 million.
The meeting will run from the 1st to the 5th of May.
Meanwhile, ADB President Takehiko Nakao is expected to arrive into Nadi this afternoon.
