Final Constitutional Commission member announced

April 20, 2012 5:47 am

Women’s and children’s rights and community activist Penelope Moore is the fifth member of the Constitutional Commission.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama made the announcement today.

A veteran of the civil society and NGO movement, Moore worked with SPCA, and later became the first coordinator for the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement from 1987 to 1993.

She also served as the Creative Director at Women’s Action for Change (WAC), a post she currently holds.

As the last commissioner on the Constitutional Commission, Moore’s appointment creates a majority of females on the commission – a ratio that is a first in Fiji’s history, and perhaps one that is also a first for many nations.
