Fiji’s leadership is an extremely important element in making sure that international communities are rallied to protect our oceans and to win the climate change battle.
United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres made this captivating statement as he continues to show support to our Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
Guterres says the impact of climate change to Fiji and the Pacific continues to be on the rise and he has promised to make the battle against climate change as the battle of his life.
The UNSG has made a lifetime commitment to the course of fighting against climate change.
“The Prime Minister was telling me in the meeting we just had that climate change corresponds to the battle of our lives from the point of view of Fiji and the Pacific, as Secretary General of the United Nations I have many battles but I have no doubt to say that as a grandfather this is also the battle of my life.”
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says it’s encouraging to know that Guterres share the same genuine fire to fight against an issue that has caused so much devastation to small island nations.
