Fijians urged to take advantage of free health screenings

Medical staff from the Indian Naval Ship “Sahyadri” will be conducting free health screenings for the public at Ratu Sukuna Park today.

India’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Vishvas Sapkal is urging Fijians to take advantage of these services as medical staff and officers from the Fiji Military will also be present.

The ship’s Executive Officer, Commander Amit Sinha says screenings will be carried out from 10am to 4:30pm.

Sinha also highlighted that the 290 crew members on board are proud to be celebrating India’s 72nd Independence Day in Fiji with its people.

“We’re very proud to be here in Fiji on our independence actually plans have been made so we are in Fiji for this independence day so we will have lots of programs and we also have a reception in the evening which will be attended by dignitaries from Fiji so we’re looking forward to that.”

He adds that the ship is on a good will visit aimed at further strengthening relations between the two countries and they look forward to meeting many locals before they depart Fiji’s shores tomorrow.
