The Fiji Muslim League says Fijians who are in Mecca, Saudi Arabia are safe.
League President, Hafiz Ud Dean Khan says a group that went on the annual Islamic pilgrimage was preparing to return to Fiji when a stampede occurred during one of the last rituals on Thursday morning.
About 700 people died and nearly 900 were injured in the stampede.

The stampede occurred during the ritual known as “stoning the devil” in a tent city in Mina, about two miles from the holy site in Mecca, Islam’s holiest city.
