Minister Semi Koroilavesau says they are considering a temporary uplifting of the ban but no decision has been made as yet.
Koroilavesau says they are consulting and people must understand it’s a complicated process.

“People may have misinterpreted and if they go out to collect beche-de-mer, they will be on the wrong side of the law and they will be prosecuted for it.”
The Minister adds they need to ensure the sustainability of beche-de-mer.
In September 2017, the Ministry enforced a total ban on harvesting, purchasing and sale of sea cucumber.
