Fijians in rural areas to receive better connectivity

July 26, 2017 2:31 am

Fijians living in the rural areas will soon receive greater internet connectivity through Telecom Fiji’s ultra-fast broadband.

Telecom Fiji General Manager Sanjay Maharaj says there is high demand of online services from these areas with around seventy percent of people depending on information from their phones.

“We have been working on a project for fibre between Korovou and Rakiraki. That area doesn’t have connectivity right now so once this fibre is in, we’ll expect the project to end around December. This fibre is a transmission fibre so it increases the resilience of our network. So if there’s a break on the route between Suva and Nadi on this Queens road, we’ll have route that’s coming from the king’s road and will actually take on the traffic and there will be no outages.”

Maharaj says they plan to take fiber, Wi-Fi hot spot and 4G Plus close as possible to every Fijian to receive fast internet services even in far flung areas.
