Fijians in rural areas encouraged to use water wisely

September 9, 2018 7:00 pm

The Water Authority is urging Fijians living in the rural areas to use alternative sources of water like rivers to wash and shower.

WAF Board Director Kamal Goundar says people need to not rely on carted water for washing.

He says that water carted by the authority is mainly for cooking and drinking.

“There are still sources which hasn’t dried up, we request the people if they could go and shower, wash clothes in the rivers and use water delivered by the authority for basic purposes.”

Goundar is also urging those affected to follow the water carting schedules and store enough water for at least two days.

He says there have been instances whereby people have called requesting for water to be carted in areas during days which are not on their outlined plans.
