Fijians dress up for Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup is about more than horses and betting – It’s also the biggest day of the fashion calendar for many keen racegoers.

Here in Fiji today, many people made an effort to show up at work in style and glamour, adding to the race fever at the office.

Westpac Fiji and major business houses are currently holding a Melbourne Cup event at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva with an aim to raise funds for unfortunate and disadvantaged children.

General Manager, Brett Hooker says many locals have hosted functions and dress-up competitions to make sure they don’t miss out on the race that stops a nation

“Everyone gets involved and in the offices around the country today I know people will be dressed up or having their hats and dresses on and the men will dress up as well so it’s an exciting time. People will have a little flatter on the horses but it’s really about enjoying the day and having a good time.”

Hooker says the Melbourne Cup is when everyone to comes together to cheer for their favourite and enjoy the excitement of the event.
