Fijian Teachers and Nurses in Tuvalu raised issues of their contract not being renewed to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

This issue was highlighted to Bainimarama during a talanoa session with Fijian community in Tuvalu.

A total of more than 10 teachers and nurses who went under the governments Fiji Volunteer Scheme had their contract expired but are still working in Funafuti.

Dr Kitione Matanisiga who is one of the senior health official in Tuvalu says four nurses returned last week to Fiji while six other nurses remained in the island.

According to the nurses, discussions have been made with the government of Tuvalu for them to continue their work.

While speaking to the Fijian community, Bainimarama says the Ministry of Labour should deal with the matter immediately as nurses and teachers need to continue their work in Tuvalu.

Foreign Affairs Minister Inia Seruiratu says the Ministry of Labour has sort out the details about their contracts and will be finalized in the next two weeks as it will be approved in parliament.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has assured the nurses and the teachers that everything will be sorted to ensure they continue their work.
