Fijian Teachers Association to begin union elections from tomorrow

The Fijian Teachers Association will hold their national elections from tomorrow and will run till November 18th.

The elections will be conducted by the Fijian Elections Office with 3,277 FTA members eligible to vote for this election.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says ten positions are up for contest.

‘’1 position for President that will be contested by 4 candidates, 2 vice presidents to be contested by 4 candidates, 1 assistant secretary to be contested by 2 candidates, 1 treasurer to be contested by 3 candidates and 5 committee members to be contested by 11 candidates’’.

The method of conducting elections will be through postal, pre—poll and attendance voting.

Postal voting is scheduled between November 4th to 13th with 825 postal voters. Delivery of postal packages begins tomorrow and collection will conclude on the 13th.

Pre poll votes targeting those in the isolated and remote areas will be conducted around parts of the country from 9th November to 13th between 6am to 6pm which excludes Diwali Day on November 11.

Polling day has been scheduled on November 17 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm to enable teachers to attend polling places after school with 1282 expected to cast their votes on the day.
