February 27, 2016 6:20 am

The terrible phase that Fiji went through this week has been heartbreaking and also been an inspiration to see that the Fijian spirit is alive and well.

This was highlighted by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama after he received $250,000 worth of corrugated roofing iron from the Vinod Patel Foundation in Suva yesterday.

The contribution has been made towards the PM’s Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.

Bainimarama says it moves him greatly to see that far from being overwhelmed by defeat and despair most people are determined to clean up and rebuild.

“My heart goes out to them and I’m determined that the government does everything it can, as quickly as it can to help them get back on their feet. We are doing everything humanly possible to deliver food, water and shelter to everyone in the affected areas. I want to thank every Fijian involved in the relief effort as well as overseas friends who have come to assist us in our hour of need.”

Foundation director Bachubhai Patel adds their subsidiary companies have given $100,000 in cash and kind to small community groups.

Also Vinod Patel gave $150,000 building materials to all their cyclone affected employees.

Resene Paints donated $10,000 and Brij Lal and Company Ltd contributed $25,000 to the Fund.
