Fiji to participate in China outbound travel market

Fiji will host a booth at the China Outbound Travel and Tourism Market in Beijing this week.

Over 3000 Chinese trade buyers from leading outbound tour operators, travel agents, consumers and travel media agencies are expected to attend the three-day event.

About 140 million Chinese tourists are expected to go abroad this year, spending more than $188 billion.

South Pacific Tourism Organisation CEO, Ilisoni Vuidreketi says Chinese consumers particularly middle income consumers prefer to travel abroad rather than to domestic destinations as they increasingly view such trips as a form of reward for their hard work during the year.

He says China continues to be a growing market for the region.
