Fiji to have a trade transit facility

December 13, 2015 12:05 am

A new transit facility will be opened by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) to cater for transit trade.

BAF Chairman Xavier Khan says the new state of the art facility will enable them to separate containers given Fiji’s position as a hub.

Khan says sometimes the containers are put on hold as they are not able to demarcate them – causing delays to consignments to Australia and New Zealand.

He says the new facility will not only be specifically for all containers but it would also cover all aspects of bio security as well as other goods such as plants, animals, dried goods, fruits and vegetables.

Khan says talks are ongoing with Fiji Ports Authority in this regard.
