September 29, 2015 1:36 am

Thailand investment projects in Fiji over the last 10 years (between 2005 and 2015) stand at $3.4million and the Fiji Government is adamant on increasing this.

Minister for Industry and Trade Faiyaz Koya this morning reiterated at the “Thai Trade Promotion Seminar” in Suva – the need for Fiji to strengthen its ties in trade with Thailand.

“The importance of the Fiji-Thailand relationship has been reciprocated by the deputy Prime Minister of Thailand’s visit in September and today’s Fiji-Trade Investment mission is evidence is that we are at the cusp of reaching new level of confidence amongst Thai and Fijian businesses to explore a plethora of opportunities between our two countries.”

Fiji has had diplomatic relations with Thailand for over 42 years now and this year in May Voreqe Bainimarama became the first Fijian Prime Minister to visit Thailand.

Koya adds more business people are seeing Fiji as not only a market of 800,000 people but a gateway to a market to more than 10 million across the Pacific.
