Fiji to benefit from wood biomass energy generation

Minister for Fisheries and Forests Osea Naiqamu says wood biomass energy generation as a renewable energy will reduce reliance on fossil fuel.

Speaking at the 2015 Fiji Biomass Symposium this morning, Naiqamu stressed that the biomass for renewable energy is a new initiative for Fiji.

Stakeholders got a chance to learn more about the initiative and advantages of the project at the symposium.

Naiqamu says the energy sector should show a full commitment towards this new direction.

‘’This symposium confirms to the people of Fiji our full commitment towards wood biomass industry for the production of energy. Government is ready is scale up and provide the necessary support that is needed to enable the setting up of a large scale biomass and pellet industry in Fiji’’.

Representatives from the Ministry and the forestry sector in Fiji and the Republic of Korea’s Forest Services were part of the symposium.
