Fiji thrashes Scotland in first pool match

The Fiji Airways 7s side survived an early scare from Scotland as they ran away with a 36 – 12 victory in their first pool match at the Las Vegas 7s.

Fiji ran rampant early in the match with two unconverted tries to Nacuqu, however, Scotland came back scoring their first try to narrow the deficit to three points.

Seconds away from the break, Fiji 7s rover Vilimoni Botitu scored Fiji’s third try to lead 17 – 7 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Fiji was a man down as Botitu was shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle.

However, Fiji showed their dominance with some outrageous offload which led to Terio Veilawa’s two tries and another try from Botitu.

Fiji will take on Wales in its next pool match at 2.23pm.

In other matches, Australia beat Wales 26-nil, and New Zealand thrashed Samoa 33-nil.

Meanwhile, the Fiji side will meet Wales in its next match at 2.23pm today, and will then face Australia in its last pool match at 7.52am tomorrow.

The Cup quarters will begin at 1.46pm tomorrow, semis at 9.12am next Monday and the Cup final will be played at 12.30pm.
