The Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation has taken over the presidency of the Marrakech Business Action for Climate from Morocco today.
In assuming the presidency role, Federation Immediate Past President, Himen Chandra says this is a milestone achievement for the private sector, placing big tasks ahead.
Himen says this presidency has given the entire private sector an added opportunity to shift its focus towards the well-being of the environment.
Federation Chief Executive, Nesbitt Hazelman says the presidency has set two major objectives for the Federation to achieve.
He says this being partnered up with the government and all other actors in the implementation of the Paris Accords and to promote the emergence of a new low-carbon economy that combats Climate Change while creating new jobs and advancing shared-economic prosperity.
“We’re basically running our Training the Trainers program this week. We are training as much people as we can. We’ve already run a program in the North to look after the Northern businesses and we’re now doing it in Suva.”
Fifty-five member countries have pleaded their commitment to the MBA4 Climate.
