Fiji selected among goodwill Ambassadors

Fiji has been selected among the founding members of Goodwill Ambassadors for the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

Agriculture Minister Inia Seruiratu was chosen among high profile public personalities during the 39th Session of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Council held in Rome, Italy.

Others include eminent Scientists, Diplomats and Agriculture Ministers.

Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama is the Head of the Fiji delegation in this Council meeting and says Fiji’s participation not only lifts Fiji’s image globally but contributes towards a climate smart, resilient and a modern and sustainable agriculture industry for Fiji.

The Circle of Goodwill Ambassadors are to inspire broad, positive and committed action in support of the Treaty’s implementation and the resourcing of its Benefit-sharing Fund (BSF) as well as to generate public awareness about the Treaty’s pivotal role in agricultural, food biodiversity issues.
