Fiji reaffirms support for MSG

Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has reiterated Fiji’s unwavering support of the Melanesian Spearhead Group at the Foreign Ministers Meeting in Solomon Islands.

Kubuabola highlighted Fiji’s support towards the finalization of the Humanitarian and Emergency Response Coordination Centre to improve collaboration particularly in light of the destruction caused by Cyclone Pam.

On the on-going debate of West Papua, Kubuabola says a firm decision on their membership application is expected to be made following frank discussions by the leaders on the matter.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will attend the MSG leaders summit in Honiara.

The MSG leader’s summit will include the Prime Ministers of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.

Vanuatu’s PM Sato Kilman is unlikely to attend the meeting because of political turmoil in Port Vila.
