Fiji ready to strengthen its cooperation with China

Fiji is ready to strengthen its cooperation with China in an effort to take the existing strategic partnership to a new level.

This comes after Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security, Inia Seruiratu met with his Chinese counterpart – Wang Yi in Beijing this week.

The two Ministers discussed a wide range of issues to strengthen diplomatic relations.

China exercises its relations with Fiji in building mutual trust, common development and shared prosperity.

Seruiratu says Fiji and China’s bilateral relations has been nothing short of impressive and has grown stronger over the years.

He says China has assisted Fiji in areas of climate change, defence and security, engagement with provinces, agriculture, fisheries and health.
This also includes education and exchange programs.

Fiji’s future engagement with China will be based around the Belt and Road Initiative, which Fiji is signatory to since November 2018.

Under the guidance of the initiative, the road to common development will be even wider.

Minister Seruiratu led a delegation to the 2019 International Seminar on the “Achievements of the SDG’s for parliaments of developing countries.
