Fiji Ports to seek financial support on wreck removal

September 12, 2018 12:40 am

The Fiji Ports Authority is looking for financial support for the salvaging of the nineteen wrecks at the Suva Harbor.

Chief executive, Vajira Piyasena says it’s an expensive exercise and the Authority will have to look for money since they do not have any specific budget for this.

Piyasena says they will make use of the contracted PNG Towing Company who will be here to salvage the sunken MV Phoenix soon.

He says they want to remove other wrecks from the harbor at the same time.

“We do have the list of all wrecks and what has happen and some have owners and some don’t have and we have a list there and we will provide that list to our propose salvaging company.”

Piyasena says it’s vital for ship owners to take precautionary measures to avoid such mistakes in Suva.
