Fiji is a vibrant regional and international trade hub and needs to upgrade its port facilities in order to meet the growing trade demands.
Fiji Ports Corporation Limited chair, Shaheen Ali, says despite being a hub the industry is facing challenges.
Ali adds a major problem for the industry is shortage of skilled people, which is affecting their services.
“We are challenged in terms of finding the right skills, the motivated workforce that continue to improve our operational performance and customer service and also in ship repairs. There is tremendous opportunities in ship building, cleaning, re-fits, refurbishment, heavy industries and engineering work.”
Ali says they want to ensure that works continue to better Fiji’s status as a trade hub.
