The Police Force is actively involved in providing capacity development for some of the small island countries.

In particular, the assistance is building capacity to help in fighting transnational crimes.

Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu says some of the countries that are benefitting from this help are Nauru, Vanuatu and Tuvalu.

He adds the Force is providing training and the up skilling of officers to help curb transnational crimes.

“Most of training undertaken by UN and other Law enforcement agencies are held in Fiji because of that very reason and of course the facility that we have in the Fiji Police academy where the Regional Police Academy is core located.”

Seruiratu says also part of its regional policing arrangement is to ensure that regional security is enhanced in and around the region.

He adds the Force together with relevant stake holders will closely collaborate to help deal with the growing issue.
