Fiji observes Remembrance Day

Former military servicemen, members of the defence forces, the diplomatic corps and government MP’s held a Remembrance Day Dawn service at the Military Cemetery in Suva at 5 this morning.

Wreaths were laid and five minutes of silence was observed to remember Fiji’s fallen heroes.

Following this, a wreath laying ceremony was conducted at the Naval Base in Walu Bay.

Speaking to FBC News President of the Fiji Returned Soldiers and Ex Servicemen Association Ratu Peni Volavola says today marks a special day to remember those that fought for the country.

However he adds that despite the Poppy Appeal coming to an end today they have received poor response from the public.

A remembrance day commemoration service will be held later this morning at 10:15am at the National War Memorial Site in Nasese, Suva.
