Fiji needs more support systems to tackle suicide

A Fijian who battled depression and attempted self-harm, says suicide is never the answer to any problem.

Andhy Blake who is a producer and presenter at Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, last night on FBCTV’s 4 The Record – sharing his life story.

Blake suffered severe depression and tried to take his own life, but having overcome a dark time, he says self-harm doesn’t solve anything.

“My battle was feeling lonely because I didn’t have any support in terms of family, friends and people I could trust. That coupled with relationship issues led me to a dark part of my life. I didn’t share, I didn’t communicate which is what anyone with personal problems needs to do.”

Blake says people must find strength within themselves to reach out and ask for help.

Having come close to losing his life, he says he’s thankful to have another chance and encourages anyone with suicidal thoughts to find help.
