Fiji needs direct communication with Australian Leader: Prof Fry

September 16, 2015 5:01 am

A political analyst at the University of the South Pacific, Professor Greg Fry believes Fiji needs to open up channels of direct communication with the new Australian leadership as soon as possible.

Malcolm Turnbull, who ousted Tony Abbot as leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister on Monday, is being seen as more receptive to the needs of the Pacific.

Professor Fry says change in leadership is expected to impact Fiji positively… as Turnbull is as an open minded leader.

‘’Tony Abbot was very much about domestic policy and everything he did outside of Australia was really about domestic policy where as i think this guy (Malcolm Turnbull) will be very different – he’ll be listening to the region – his whole thing is geared to the Asia Pacific’’.

Fry says Australians had already voted against Abbot, as they were not satisfied with his policies.

Turnbull has become Australia’s fourth Prime Minister in three years….and it’s raising questions about stability.
