April 25, 2017 9:49 pm

Only one vessel remains operational in Fiji’s Navy fleet.

Defence Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola explained in Parliament yesterday that since the crash of the RFNS Kiro last year in July, the Navy’s fleet has been somewhat gutted.

Of the four vessels that were part of the fleet, the RFNS Kikau will be sealifted to Australia tomorrow for a refit where it will remain there for the remainder of the year.

The RFNS Lautoka is awaiting a safety and structural survey which is scheduled for this month and the RFNS Levuka is awaiting decommissioning because of its age.

The Minister was responding to a question from Opposition MP Semesa Karavaki.
