The Fiji Navy yesterday farewelled their New Zealand navy brothers after the end of Operation Wasawasa two.

Navy Commander Captain Humphrey Tawake says the exercise began last year and has been successful in helping the Fijian Navy with their operations.

Tawake says operation Wasawasa one and two speaks volumes of New Zealand’s continuous support and cooperation within the region not only for Fiji but other Pacific Island Countries as well.

Commanding Officer HMNZS Otago, Lieutenant Commander Lorna Gray says their aim during the operation was to contribute to resources as well as operations in the Fijian Exclusive Economic Zone.

Gray says this year alone they inspected 160 vessels and also issued some infringement notices.

The New Zealand Navy will continue supporting its Fijian counterpart in terms of skills, technology and experience to prepare them for the arrival of more navy vessels.
