The Fiji Museum Board of Trustees is aware of the plans to rezone the land allocated for recreational use within the Botanical Gardens & Meke Grounds.

The Board is appreciative of the transparent manner in which the Suva City Council and the Ministry of Local Government presented the proposed development.

This has provided the Fijian public with an opportunity to respond to and raise any potential concerns.

The Fiji Museum Archaeology Section is currently undertaking considerable research and consultation on the archaeological and paleontological significance of the site, in regards to the Fiji Preservation of Objects of Archaeological and Paleontological Significance Act.

The board will also be assessing how the development interfaces with the surrounding properties, in particular with the National Museum and the significant heritage botanical feature that exists in Thurston Gardens.
