Fiji Met forecasts fine weather for Christmas and Boxing Day

The Fiji Meteorology Department has forecast fine weather across much of the Fiji Group on Christmas and Boxing Day.

Cloudy periods with brief showers is expected over the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands that is Taveuni, Vanua Levu, Viti Levu and Kadavu.

Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms possible in the above areas.

Fine weather is expected elsewhere becoming cloudy in the afternoon with chances of isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms.

Moderate to fresh southeast winds is anticipated.

For tomorrow brief showers is expected over the eastern and interior parts of larger islands.

Meanwhile, a high pressure system to the southeast of Fiji directs a fresh to strong southeast wind flow over Fiji waters.

In anticipation of this, a “Strong Wind Warning” remains in force for all Fiji Waters.

Mariners can expect southeast winds 20 to 25 knots and rough seas which may produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft.

The Met Office is advising inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels to avoid sailing in these conditions.
