Fiji Meat Industry’s board reviewing its legislation

The Fiji Meat Industry’s board is reviewing the Meat Act.

Permanent Secretary for Agriculture David Kolitagane says this is being done as they are still using the 1970 legislation which in some aspects is outdated.

“We are just trying to modernize it and bring it to the legislation with the operations to come up and be compatible.

In addition to a legislative review, Kolitagane says they are also looking at the overall operations to be on par with the international best practices.

Meanwhile, he adds they are currently working on a re-stocking programme with bulk suppliers in the sector.
