April 2, 2015 1:11 am

Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luke Daunivalu says Fiji has made good progress in meeting Millennium Development Goals.

He told a Post-2015 Development Agenda Media Dialogue that an example is the setting up of effective bodies in the country such as Pacific Island Development Forum.

“The PIDF as many of you know is the only regional body focused squarely on addressing sustainable development issues in an inclusive manner by bringing Government, civil society organisations and the private sector to the table as equal partners.”

In 2000, countries agreed to eight MDGs and as the time frame to achieve the goals ends in September, leaders will have to negotiate Sustainable Development Goals.

Under the SDGs there are 17 new goals which include issues that Pacific Island Countries have been lobbying for like Climate Change, Oceans and Seas and Ecosystems Forests and Biodiversity.
