Fiji is now the leading producer of legal, genuine, Mahogany in the world after a branding ceremony in Deuba yesterday.
Pure Fiji Mahogany was not recognised until a licensing and branding decree was implemented last year.
Trade Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says Fiji now becomes one of the main players when it comes to mahogany on the international scene.
“Currently we are in the process of registering the Pure Fiji Mahogany brand in about 29 different countries in the world, this includes the EU, it includes South Africa, China, Brazil and numerous other countries.”
The Chief Executive for Gibson Guitars, Henry Gibson, revealed this is the first time a sovereign nation owns a brand value.
“Fiji is a leader now in the world in partnering with industries to lead the way in what i believe would be the future of management of natural resources.”
The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says the development of the pure Fiji Mahogany will go towards maximising returns in a sustainable manner.
