Fiji launches live TV app

Fijians will no longer need rush to their television sets to watch their favourite programs this as the new Walesi OTT mobile app was launched today.

The app allows viewers to access content from the Walesi platform from anywhere in the country meaning Fijians can access their TV channels on their mobile phones.

Communications Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this app comes under the Government’s vision of the newly launched Digital Fiji platform.

“This app brings to home a great level of information that they traditionally did not enjoy and of course entertainment as well.”

The state also wanting TV stations to use this platform to produce more local content for viewers.

“This is also aimed at encouraging content providers as a new revenue source to produce more local content and that of course is very critical.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says TV stations also get a chance to earn revenue via the app.

“This is a forty-forty-twenty distribution. In other ways the cost of internet that is used to watch television program – So the internet providers will receive 20% while the balance of 40% each will be divided amongst Walesi and content providers.”

The Walesi App is available for download on Google’s Playstore and Apple’s App Store for free.
