There’s a shortage of qualified painters in the country and to change this, APCO Coatings Fiji has been providing training to Fijians to upgrade their skills.
APCO Coating’s, General Manager South Pacific Pawan Vadlamani, says the company trains close to 300 people annually.
“We take the list of painters and we try to skill them. Skill them in terms of providing them with painting knowledge, provide the right tools. In this regard, we are trying to come up with opportunities to work with mechanized tools. These tools improve the productivity of the painter.”
Company Regional Head, Tom Thomas, says they have invested in improving the selection of home decorating paints in Fiji.
“With all the projects and all the progress in Fiji’s economy, there is a lot of opportunity for housing deco and meeting consumer expectations and we have invested in expanding our capacity there.”
The company is also working with Australia Pacific Technical College (APTC) to introduce courses that will enhance the skills of painters.
