November 5, 2018 4:03 am

The Fiji Police Force has assured all Fijians that the country is safe and there will be no coup or political upheaval on November 15th.

This comes after information was received that some politicians have started spreading lies that a coup is most likely to take place after Election Day.

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho is calling on Fijians to go out and cast their votes on the 14th and enjoy the next few days waiting for election results as nothing of coup talks will occur.

“I can assure that we’re postured for any security situation that will arise and also we’ve been in consultation with the RFMF especially with Commander Viliame Naupoto that they have a responsibility as well in the safety and security of Fiji and all its citizens and we’re well postured to do with anything. Those are just rumors that people don’t need to take seriously if you look at Fiji’s history this rumors do come around and we don’t see any ounce of truth in that with our intelligence gathering, network and our close cooperation with the military- there’s no such thing.”

RFMF Chief of Staff Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai has also given assurance they will step in to assist the Police if need be.

“The RFMF will stand ready to assist and support the Police if they require that assistance and that has to come from the Police Commissioner to the Commander RFMF.”

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner says more than 2000 officers will be deployed specifically for elections operation.
Brigadier General Qiliho maintains their primary role on policing will remain with a high visibility of officers adding that officers will be manning all police stations with units on standby.
