Fiji is only detecting 62% of TB cases

Recent estimates by the World Health Organization indicates that Fiji is detecting only sixty-two percent of tuberculosis cases.

It says the missing thirty-eight percent of people who have TB will continue to spread the disease in their various communities and may not get access to available lifesaving interventions.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health with the Golden Oldies Club, Rewa will launch the Breathe Well Mobile Clinic tomorrow to help these communities.

Chairman of Golden Oldies Club, Aporosa Tuqovu, says this mobile clinic will a go a long way especially for the elderly.

“We’d like to continue in other province for our senior citizens to know the importance of life, even though they are at that age but what community believes is that the senior citizens, the very people that can address and can get the message down to the youths and all the children of today.”

The cost for this Mobile Clinics is over six hundred thousand dollars.

This approach in TB prevention and care is estimated to increase TB case detection by 15-20%.
