Fiji is an economic hub: Australian PM

Australia see’s Fiji as an economic hub in the region because of its leadership role.

Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison during his recent visit to Fiji says this year the global economy is a much more uncertain place then it was 12 months ago.

Morrison says they are pushing for the ratification of PACER Plus which Australia ratified at the end of last year.

The Australian Prime Minister maintaining that the trade agreement is a good deal which Fiji needs to consider.

“A regional trade agreement will open new markets and economic opportunities for the Pacific. PACER Plus will be a better and stronger regional agreement with Fiji in it. We see Fiji very much as an economic hub in our region. Every deal is better with Fiji in it.”

Morrison says following discussions with Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his cabinet last week – they will be undertaking a new joint study in the months ahead on both the trade and economic impacts of PACER Plus.

He says they are looking forward to assist and facilitate a good outcome.
