Education Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says that they are in talks with Australia about getting some technical assistance and looking at school curriculum here in Fiji.

Sayed-Khaiyum says an example of this will be looking at the Math syllabus.

“Fiji for example in High School, where Math is compulsory, everybody does the same Math subject. The Math also teaches you algorithms, Pythagoras theorem, all those sophisticated Math areas of study. Not every student wants to study all of that, not every student will use that.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says they are looking at details as to how they do the breakdown in Australia and that’s what Fiji could replicate.

He says students will then have a choice to do pure Math if their future career requires Math while other students can do Life Math as an alternative.
