Fiji hosts non-resident diplomats

Non-resident diplomats accredited to Fiji are here for a week, in the hopes of improving trade, bilateral relations and people to people ties.

These ambassadors and high commissioners are based in Australia and New Zealand but represent their respective countries interests in the Pacific.

Foreign Affairs Minister Inia Seruiratu says Fiji is seeking closer ties that have long term positive outcomes.

“We are looking to strengthen bilateral cooperation with developed and developing economies through arrangements that are mutually beneficial. While the global trading system has benefitted from the advent of the internet, e-commerce and new technology – enhancing our people to people links require easier cross border access. To that end, Fiji has been, and is pursuing visa exemption arrangements with partners that are willing.”

This is the first time Fiji has hosted such a meeting bringing together non-resident diplomats from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.
