November 26, 2014 6:53 pm

The Tourism sector in Fiji will have to make some changes to cater for the Chinese investors and tourists that come into the country.

Fiji Hotel & Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto says China is a lucrative market that has the potential to dramatically boost Fiji’s tourism.

“To be ready for them in terms of mandarin speaking and other facilities and I think we are making the adjustments. Rosie Holidays are getting charters from China and a lot of the tour operators have staff that speaks mandarin; so we are slowly gearing towards that market and I think that unless the visitors are comfortable here; language, food, attractions, what they want, shopping and we are adjusting to the needs of this market.”

Seeto says tapping into the Chinese market would greatly benefit the economy.

“I am very confident about the development of the Chinese traffic because that’s one of the most sought-after traffic in the world now – the reason is because they are the biggest spenders. The outbound market of Chinese is over 100-million people and if you could just capture a small percentage of that we would be happy.”

Tourism in Fiji is growing with visitor arrivals on the increase according to figures released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.
