Fiji fuel operators want better profit margin

Local fuel operators, want a bigger piece of the pie in terms of profit margins.

Fiji Fuel Retailers Association President Nasser Khan says Fiji has one of the lowest lowest profit margins for in the region.

“When we are talking about margins, we are talking about our profitability which stands at about 1 and ½ percent which is quite low. We are saying that the lowest fuel margin in the region that is about 12 cents for Samoa and we would like to be in the same category.”

Khan adds local operators are beginning to sound like broken records, but they feel strongly about the matter.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he can’t intervene in price-control deliberations but hopes for an outcome that will meet retailers concerns and protect the wider public interest.
