Fiji first Pacific Island nation to host ABU General Assembly

Fiji will be hosting the 2020 Robocon Event and the 2021 Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union General Assembly and Associated Meetings.

It becomes the first Pacific Island nation to host these events.

The Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Dr Javad Mottaghi met Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on the margins of parliament.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum also met with the Secretary-General to discuss the upcoming events.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government is pleased to facilitate the hosting of both the Robocon Event and the ABU General Assembly and Associated Meetings.

He says the 2020 Robocon Event will be benefit our young people both in secondary school and university.

The event will bring university students from more than 20 countries to the Asia-Pacific Region.

The 2021 ABU General Assembly and Associated Meetings is expected to bring about 350 participants from the broadcasting sector in Asia-Pacific and will be an opportunity for not only Fijian broadcasters but the region to participate and learn from each other.

The national team will be leaving for Mongolia this month to participate in the 2019 Robocon Event.
