Fiji Filariasis Free Weekend launched

Health workers will make door to door visits from next Friday and provide filariasis tablets as part of the government’s efforts to curb the disease.

Health Minister, Dr Neil Sharma launched Fiji Filariasis Free Weekend in Suva this morning.

He says the disease which causes major disfigurement has had a major impact on the country.

“Diseases such as this impair our national productivity, it adversely affects the quality of life, it provides an area where we have a lot of disability, and self esteem is affected so we need to address all these issues.”

Fiji Filariasis Free Weekend runs from the 26th to the 28th of October.
