The leaders of various Fijian Civil Society Organisations have been encouraged to continue thinking outside the box to encourage change.

The call was made by Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum who is in New York to attend the High-level Political Forum.

Speaking to the leaders at the Fiji Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Sayed-Khaiyum also urged them to directly engage with the government to help the nation achieve its Sustainable Development Goals.

The Political Forum is an annual gathering at the UN Headquarters where a selected group of nations presents their progress in achieving the 17 SDGs outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Meanwhile, the AG also held a bilateral meeting with Norway’s Minister of International Development.

The two leaders discussed ways to share the knowledge that could benefit Fiji’s efforts to make the shipping industry in the Pacific more environmentally-friendly, and how Norway could take a leadership role in helping Fiji develop its recently-announced Relocation Trust Fund.

The Trust Fund is a first-of-its-kind initiative that is being established to help seaside Fijian communities vulnerable to rising sea levels, the transition to new locations and livelihoods.
