Fiji bids for UNGA Presidency

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has recommended Ambassador Peter Thomson – Fiji’s permanent representative to take up the presidency of the next UN General Assembly.

Bainimarama in his address at the UN General Assembly this morning said Thomson is a seasoned Diplomat who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership.

Adding that Fiji looks to the friends of the Pacific Islands at the UN to give their support to Thomson for the Presidency of the next year’s Assembly.

If Thomson’s candidacy is successful, he would be the first from the region to be appointed to the role.
