Fiji and PNG to co-host 5th Pacific Tuna Forum

Fiji and Papua New Guinea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to co-host the 5th Pacific Tuna Forum his year.

The MOU will guide the inputs of both countries in co- hosting the forum on September 22 and 23rd.

Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries Osea Naiqamu says Fiji has already started preparing for the event.

This is the first time Fiji will be hosting the biannual Forum since its inception in 2007.

“It is envisaged that having the Pacific Tuna Forum in Fiji will enable participants in other from other Pacific islands to holistically appreciate the opportunity and challenges in tuna management, investment and trade in the region’’.

The PNG Government has indicated it is committing $1million Kina to help in the preparation.

Close to 400 people from all regional fishing nations are expected to attend the Forum, which will be held at Denarau in Nadi.
