Fiji and China sign health MOU

The government is looking forward to more assistance from China in the health sector.

Health Minister Jone Usamate signed an agreement with China’s Vice Minister for Health, Sun Zhingang that would lead to more cooperation between the two countries.

Usamate says China’s involvement in the health sector has grown gradually over the years and is expected to increase.

‘’Possibly co-operation in terms of training of people, we also have major challengers in terms of facilities – if you look around a lot of our facilities they need to be upgraded and in some cases we need new facilities some specialist facilities’’.

China funded the construction of the new hospital in Navua last year.

It also sent a medical ship to Suva provide free medical treatment to people.
